Today marks the 10th Anniversary of Alchemist’s debut solo, 1st Infantry. To celebrate A-L-C’s decade of dope, we put together ten years worth of Alc bangers, from 2004- 20134. For each year, we picked one of our favorite Alc joints (not easy to do) and put together our own, Alchemix.

Hip-Hop 365 Day 913 [The Trunk Rattlin’ Summer Edition] Masta Ace Incorporated - Born To Roll

Black boy, black boy turn that shit down
You know that America don’t wanna hear the sound
Of the bass drum jungle music go back to Africa
Nigga I’ll arrest you if you holding up trafffic
I’ll be damned if I listen, so cops save your breath and Write another ticket if ya have any left”

The above verse contain lines near and dear to my soul. Ever since I’ve been behind the wheel I could feel the stares and looks of distain as pedestrians and other drivers as my non factory system pierces the atmosphere with the dreams and fury of an entire generation.

Masta Ace brilliantly captures this feeling on Born To Roll’s final verse

What started out merely as a “Westcoast Remix” of the Brooklyn crew’s song “Jeep Ass Niguh” ended as the biggest hit for Master Ace and the I.N.C. appearing on both the SlaughtaHouse and Sittin’ On Chrome albums.

And the video though, very much ahead of its time when you thank about how much videos today are stacked with “vixens”. The difference here is the ladies in “Born To Roll” were not paid extras or aspiring starlets but Car Models and a few sexy spectators at a Cali Car Show were Ace and the INC took the majority of footage with handhelds.

The Car Show full of Lowriders and Tricked Out Pickups was the ideal setting for the intentionally bass heavy track was produced by Ace under his production pseudonym Ase One is guaranteed to have to trunk rattling like a newborn on even the most pedestrian of factory systems. Perfect for the months east of May

So this week when i asked the 365ers their Summer favorite tracks I was surprised this wasn’t mentioned. Whelp I’m mentioning it now, “Check It Out Baby, I was Born To Roll” - @Phillmatic365

Hip-Hop 365 Day 866 [The BEST Emcee in the World Edition] Black Thought - Hip-Hop Nation Townhall Freestyle {With Quest Love on the 1s & 2s}

"I’m definitely one of the best rappers, that’s just what it is" - Black Thought 5-14-2014

"Black Thought is the best emcee in the world word to CM Punk" - Phillmatic365

But because he doesn’t Make it rain, pop molly, Slang rocks, smack bitches or bust guns, Black Thought gets overlooked too often.

Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought, Frontman of the Legendary Roots Crew has ripped up microphones and torn down stages consistently for over 20 years.

(google It) Over his 21 year professional career there have been 100s of records and twice as many quotables. The Best stage show in the business. The ability to spit for days, craft songs or legitimately freestyle off the dome. No emcee has ever been so well rounded at such a high level for so long, not BIG, Jay, Nas, Rakim, KRS ,Kane, Cube, Pac, Common, Face, 3000 or anyone else you want to name. So when I say Thought is the Best emcee in the world its with all seriousness. The argument has to be made.So newbies don’t be fooled by his “just one of the band” and occasional skit player persona on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. ‘Riq Gees is alway ready to spit those bars when called upon, see popular show skits “Freestyling with The Roots and Tariq’s “Rap Ups”. And despite his penchant for Yankee Fitteds Tariq is always reppin for Illadelph. In fact as legend has it Black Thought is the one that coined the infamous moniker for our beloved city.Whether it’s a Black Thought or Tariq Trotter, Rap show or The Tonight Show Yankee Fitted or Phillies Fitted it matters not. The lyrics are always high quality and at the ready and unlike many of his contemporaries whose skills too often diminish as the years go by Thought only seems to be getting better, see today’s selection if you need proof. If Black Thought keeps on at this pace we’ll have to call him Hip-Hop’s Hank Aaron or something else, The GOAT!
